Suzuki didn't sell the Savage in the U.S. until the 1986 model year. As far as I have been able to find out, they didn't make it before then. Are you sure it's not a '92? Like Polar Pilot says, check the ID number. How well do you know your neighbor?
If it turns out she is just mistaken about the model year, check out the blue book value for it. If it's in decent shape, treat it like you would a car engine or a lawn mower that hadn't been started in two years. Basic design is the same, simple 4-stroke.
